Controlled Irrigation was established in July 1968 as a design and installation operation and has since been responsible for a large portion of the major irrigation design and installations in South Africa.

The company’s design team undertook the first two automatic Turf irrigation systems in South-Africa – at Johannesburg City Council nurseries at Huddle park and at a private residence in Illovo. It has undertaken the installation of a single mister on a tree fern to a fully automatic system in an extensive garden such as Monte Casino and from the irrigation of RAU campus to the Armscor Head office and from a 55 hectare agricultural Center-Pivot System in Ellisras to a 398 hectare spraylines system in Lydenburg. The company has also been responsible for the design and installation of manual, and fully automatic systems on more than 40 golf courses. We have also been involved in numerous design and supply dust control projects using the Nelson Big Gun sprinklers.


The company, feeling the need for individuality has secured its own sprinkler equipment agencies, namely LR Nelson, Nelson Irrigation Corp., Walla Walla Sprinkler Company, Rainbird Golf and Orbit which the company imports from the U.S.A. We also secured the SAB Agency which is involved in PVC, Compression and Electro-fusion fittings. A seventh agency, which is held by, Controlled Irrigation is the Microjet agency which incorporates: - the innovative full flow pipe fitting, utilized by the majority of Turf irrigation installers in this country – the Microjet Micro-sprayer and associated equipment, and the Emjay nylon insert fittings. Controlled Irrigation cc. also distributes the Grundfos, Espa and Nowax range of centrifugal and submersible pumps.


With the acquisition of these agencies the business direction of the company has changed from a construction entity to a design and supply entity. We have gone from a small garage to a multi million rand, 5 branches country wide company. With all our previous knowledge and current expertise we are in a position to offer un rivaled service, support and on-site back up to contractors using it’s products.

The company has a distinction in that it can offer far more than mere goods supply. The Controlled Irrigation design team consists on of 14 certificated members of the L.I.A (Landscape irrigation association), 4 of our members have also completed the senior certificate namely the commercial certificate. Two of the team also being a fellow of the S.A.I.I (South-African Irrigation Institute). These qualifications, along with the many years of experience in the construction field, place the Company in a position to offer excellent service to its clients. The design team is available for design and consultation on projects in the Turf Irrigation field and provides design expertise and construction advice to irrigation contractors.
